I am a student of the Internal Martial Arts, in particular, Tai Chi Chuan. I started with the Yang short and Yang Cheng Fu’s long form, then progressed to the Chen Xin Jia, the Hong Kong large frame Wu, the Shanghai Fast Wu, and now on the path of the soft “no-force” Yang style of Sifu Sam Tam.
I am the principal programmer and co-owner of ImageCraft, a producer of embedded C tools. I am also a calligrapher and photographer.
Hi,
When you say that Qi should be just left alone and humbly learned may be right.
Your attack on the Western science misses the point, though For the last few centuries, the Western science finds some of its important foundations in the thought of Newton, and Occam. Briefly and roughly:
- Occam: Look for simplest possible explanations, but not simpler. It means that if some things just cannot be explained, leave them as they are.
- Newton: The things are as they are [created by God]. We just humbly are trying to find laws the things follow. When we try to explain those things and laws and hit the boundary of our understanding, we leave the things as they are. (For example, that was Newton’s approach to gravity: he formulated the law of gravity without explaining its nature.)
What you are criticizing is a vulgar view of Tai Chi and a vulgar view of Western science. Well, vulgar views are easy to attack. That’s what makes them vulgar.
Hi Vsevolod, BTW, you have commented on the “About” post, and not the actual post. If at all possible, perhaps you can re-comment there.
I am by no mean attacking Western Science at all. My point is simply that just because something does not map easily into the western science worldview, it does not make it invalid.
BTW, note that I said “easily” and it’s on purpose. A lot of the Qi and Jin phenomenon are more or less explainable in scientific terms if you know the terminology. It’s not woo-woo hand waving at all.

Hello Ricard,
I believe that I have indirectly met you before on the Neija list. I believe we then followed Mike to his new page. How is that sight doing? How are you doing?
